Andy Santos' 2013 MLB Season Predictions

The upcoming 2013 baseball season already has many people talking about favorites to make it to the World Series. This includes many people who feel like the two Los Angeles area teams(Dodgers and Angels) are the clear favorites. While others feel that the Detroit Tigers are primed to make another run, possibly against the Giants again, or against the Nationals. The Toronto Blue Jays, with the acquisitions of R.A. Dickey, Jose Reyes, Mark Bueherle, Melky Cabrera, and Josh Johnson seem to be the big winners of the off season, but with that being said look at how the Miami Marlins fared after they spent the big money last off season. The St. Louis Cardinals made some noise in the 2012 postseason, only to fall 1 game short of the World Series. In the world of baseball the only thing that we can expect is the unexpected, so with that being said I will make my best attempt at predicting the 2013 MLB season, including division winners, wild card winners, playoffs, and team outlooks.

American League

East

*1.Blue Jays  95-67
x-2.Yankees  88-74
3.Orioles   85-77
4.Red Sox  81-81
5.Rays   79-83

Central

*1.Tigers  97-65

5.Twins   73-89

West

*1.Angels 94-68
2.Rangers 87-77
3.A's 82-80
4. Mariners 76-86
5.Astros 68-94

AL Notes: Yankees wont be as good as in seasons past, Blue Jays will make playoffs for first time in years but will flop in the ALDS, Angels will get to the ALCS to fall short, Astros receive a rude welcoming to the AL, Tigers are the best team of the league, Miguel Cabrera will repeat as MVP, Indians are my surprise team of 2013.

Playoffs:

Blue Jays, Tigers, Angels: Wilcard Teams: Yankees and Indians
ALCS: Tigers vs Angels
AL Champion = Tigers

Season Awards:
MVP = Miguel Cabrera 3B, Detroit Tigers (Again)

Manager of the Year = Terry Francona, Cleveland Indians

National League

  East

*1.Nationals 103-58
x-2.Braves 93-67

*1.Giants 90-72
2.Dodgers 85-77
3.Diamondbacks 82-80
4.Rockies 77-85
5.Padres 72-90

NL Notes: Nationals are the deepest and most complete team in baseball, Dodgers will miss the playoffs players who didn't work out in Boston won't work in L.A. either, Cardinals will make another deep October playoff run, Braves will disappoint again, Reds will be a legitimate contender, Andrew McCutchen will take his game to new heights maybe NL MVP in 2013.

Playoffs:

Nationals, Reds, Giants: Wildcard Teams: Braves and Cardinals
NLCS: Nationals vs Cardinals

NL Champion=Nationals

Season Awards:
MVP = Andrew McCutchen CF, Pittsburgh Pirates(yes a non-contending team will have an MVP)
Cy Young = Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers

 World Series: Tigers vs Nationals

Nationals will win in 7 games, 2013 World Series Champions Washington Nationals

  1. My 2 beer crystal ball says the rays take the east, the 'a's make the playoffs, the tigers win thew alcs, atlanta is going to give washington fits, the reds n cards ok (but wouldn't be surprised by pittsburg), san fran, ok. I would say atlanta beats detroit in thews

  2. I don't see the Rays making a run.. They have lost too much offense and they lost Shields.. I think Atlanta is a great team but I don't see them beating the Nationals.. I agree that the Pirates could shock people but the A's are NOT going to make the playoffs I can guarantee that..The AL west is for the Angels this yr..

  3. First of all the blog format is a big eyesore, very hard to read with all the formatting errors and the awkwardly placed pics.

Second, the Rays last place? What the hell are you smoking? I can see the Rays coming in 1st 2nd or 3rd at or above .500. To me the offense is either the same or improved, think about it:

    major uppgrades:
Longoria (we didn't have him most of last year), Escobar (upgrade over Sean-Rod), Looney (upgrade over Pena), Myers (should be up by May)

    Major Downgrades:
    Upton, Keppinger.
To me that is not worse than last year, and if Longo is good for 140 games or more I say its an upgrade. Even with Shields gone our rotation is still a plus (Price, Hell-boy, Moore, Cobb, Niemen/Hernandez/Archer). Our defense to me is better with Escobar and Johnson.

They should be in contention for a playoff berth most of the year if not the whole year. It looks like you pulled all of these stats out of your you-know-what.

  5. 1. Yes I'm from NY
    2. Where I'm from has nothing to do with my predictions.
    3. I'm NOT a fan of the Yankees...
    4. I'm a Mets fan
    5. I have nothing against the Rays I just don't see them being that good this year I see them being significantly weaker, but I will say that the AL East is very wide open and the Ray have good young pitching..

    1. I also disagree about Toronto being so far ahead of everyone else in the east, I think there could easily be 2-3 90 game winners out of the east. I can easily see Toronto being this years Boston, champions on paper that don't work out.

      I see the east going:
      Toronto
      Rays
      Yanks
      O's
      Sox

    2. The above is assuming Toronto lives up to expectations
